Our Future

The goal for Son Light Ministries is to serve as many people as possible, and as Betty and Brother Grayson do this, they are dreaming big for what the next years will look like. The most important goal for the near future is to have a staff. They are currently serving between 2,000 and 3,000 families a month, and Betty and Brother Grayson need a consistent staff to help them keep Son Light Ministries sustainable for many more decades to come. Brother Grayson noted that to continue reaching for the larger goals, Betty needs to move to a managerial position in the ministry so that she can focus on the future of Son Light Ministries. One of Betty’s largest goals is to open a shelter in Selma to support the homeless community. In response to her goal for the shelter, Brother Grayson said “before I leave this world, we’ve gotta give Betty the shelter”. Betty once had a shelter for the people of Shelby County, and God has prayed on her heart significantly to open one in Selma. Brother Grayson looks forward to adding a bus ministry, which would pick up kids and feed them breakfast and take them to the church.

In the Spring of 2022, Son Light Centers started working with the Culverhouse Accounting Advisory Group, through a professor to help them run their books. This relationship expanded over the summer wheen the University of Alabama chapter of Beta Alpha Psi Alpha Beta, decided to take on helping them manage and set up a Digital presence, volunteer management system and inventory management system, along with policies for all of these. The students of Beta Alpha Psi took this project on head first and have made a lot of progress in just a short amount of time. They launched an Instagram account, a volunteer system through Point, and have made progress on a inventory management system that will help Son Light Centers run more efficiently. Students have also travelled to Selma 6 times to provide on-ground volunteers that help with almost every aspect of their operations:  building food bins, passing out food bins, and organizing the thrift store and disaster relief center. Beta Alpha Psi plans to continue to help in the coming years through both the remote work and in-person and will continue to provide support as Son Light Centers grows and needs it.
